Background Information:
The Arts Commission has selected Houston Artist Shane Allbritton's submitted design for the Ramon Lucio Park public art project. She was one of three finalists to be selected for further evaluation out of more than sixty submissions to a nationwide call for artist qualifications.
Though the call was distributed nationwide, it was publicized locally with two of the finalists coming from Texas.
The three finalists were paid a stipend to create their designs and present them in a public forum in February of 2023. Arts Commissioners and public commentors alike appreciated the design's iconic form and eye pleasing colors - not to mention its ease of maintenance.
Allbritton also has work on display on the Texas State Campus: "Vessels," the large outdoor sculpture depicting canoes outside of Elena Zamora O'Shea Hall (formerly San Gabriel Hall).
