Background Information:

TxDOT Aviation, as the agent for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), require a resolution confirming the city's commitment to fund the Taxiway Alpha Reconstruction Project with the city funding 10 percent ($606,020) of the total estimated construction cost.

In 2018 the city initiated the design to reconstruct the two main taxiways at the San Marcos Regional Airport (Taxiway Alpha and Charlie). This was undertaken after the city requested to TxDOT Aviation the need to repair/reconstruct both taxiways due to their deteriorating condition.  TxDOT Aviation confirmed in November 2020 that Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) would be programing discretionary funds (90% Federal, 10% local sponsor) for both taxiways. Taxiway Charlie first in 2022 and Taxiway Alpha in 2023.

Taxiway Charlie, phase 1, started in construction in January 2023 after city council approved the city entering into a grant with TxDOT Aviation in September 2022.  Taxiway Alpha is the second phase of the work.

The total construction cost is estimated at $6,060,200.00. The city will be required to fund 10 percent at $606,020. A resolution confirming the city's commitment to fund the project will allow the project to go out to bid in May/June of this year. The City’s matching funds where approved in the FY 2023 CIP; however, no funds are required at this time.

Following receipt of bids, a participation agreement will be developed by TxDOT Aviation which will require council approval for the city to fund its portion of the construction amount. Construction is anticipated to start late 2023.
