Background Information:

Section 31.092 (a) of the Texas Election Code provides that local political subdivisions, including cities, can contract with the Election Officer of the County where the city is located to conduct elections for the city.  The City of San Marcos has contracted with the Hays County Elections Administrator since 2005 when the City began having its elections in November.  The Hays County Elections Administrator also conducts elections for other political subdivisions.

This proposed agreement provides that the Hays County Elections Administrator will serve as the official Election Officer and Early Voting Clerk for the City Election.  The City Clerk’s Office works closely with the Elections Administrator and will continue to have an active role in the Election process.

As was discussed last year when the election agreements were brought forward, language has been added to the agreement to provide for the City’s input regarding voting locations.
