Background Information
:

During the July 7, 2020, Council meeting, Interim Chief Bob Klett recommended to the Council that a use of force ad-hoc committee be formed.  This committee, comprised of community members nominated by the City Council, would review the Police Department’s use of force policy and make recommendations to the Police Chief’s Advisory Panel via a written report and “open presentation”.  Chief Klett then recommended that he make a report and presentation to the City Council.

On October 20, 2020, the City Council appointed representatives to the use of force ad-hoc committee.

The use of force ad-hoc committee met six times since then and finished their comprehensive review on May 10, 2021.  The committee then presented their findings to the Chiefs Advisory Panel on June 16, 2021.

The committee is ready to present their findings to the Mayor and City Council.
