Background Information:
This purchase is for network equipment necessary for the new Public Service Complex and the Police Department addition and renovations. This equipment will provide enhanced security features and functionality to help protect two critical areas at the City. While researching this equipment purchase for the two projects with the City’s current hardware vendor, we found that they had significantly increased cost. IT staff evaluated various other solutions through the Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR) and Freeit Data Solutions, Inc., Austin, Texas, was the most reliable and cost-effective solution providing a better value to the City.
Through DIR contract DIR-TSO-4299, the city will realize a cost saving of $111,299.74. This together with the additional vendor discount of $274,716.74, the total discount for the network equipment is $386,016.48 for network equipment for both facilities.
With discounts provided through DIR and the vendor, Freeit Data Solutions, Inc., the cost of new network equipment for the Police Department renovations and additions is $174,484.20 and the cost for the Public Services Complex is $181,497.28, for a total cost of $355,981.48.
