Background Information:
Control valves in the water distribution system must be maintained by exercising them open and
closed. This valve exercise program will ensure that not just critical valves but all system valves are accessible, operational and in good working order. The “Valve Exercise Program” will identify, log and generate a work order on all broken or hard to operate valves for prompt repair. A good valve exercise program will ensure that valves will operate when needed to control water flow during an emergency or maintenance.
The Wach’s Valve Exerciser/ Maintenance skid will provide the “muscle” to operate the valves open and closed routinely which is very labor intensive. This machine can generate up to 750 Ft/lbs. of power but it is automated to avoid breaking valves. Broken valves create emergency repairs which could have major repercussions in certain areas of town. This equipment skid is mounted to a utility truck for operation of the valves. It replaces a unit that is more than 15 years old.
Through authority granted in Local Government Code 271, and City is making this procurement through a cooperative agreement with Buyboard, E.H. Wachs of Lincolnshire, IL through Buyboard cooperative contract #597-19 for Public Services, Water/Wastewater Division, for the amount of $74,594.50.
