Background Information:
The Wonder World Drive/Hunter Road intersection was designed to accommodate vehicular traffic with no preferential treatment for pedestrians and cyclists. In addition, northbound motorists tend to travel through the intersection while using the northbound right turn lane. The objective of this project is to make the intersection safer for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists. This project scope includes construction of a pedestrian refuge island, reconstruction of sidewalks and curb ramps, installation of pedestrian signal poles, and installation of bicycle lanes, erosion control and traffic control. It is funded through Surface Transportation Block Grant (STBG) program with Federal Participation in the amount of $450,000.
Invitation for Bid 219-374 was issued on April 19, 2020 and bids were opened on May 21, 2020. Even though there was significant interest based on the number of potential bidders on the planholders’ list, only one bid was received. Lone Star Sitework, LLC, Wimberley, Texas, bid $529,832.56 which is 12% higher than the engineer’s opinion of probable construction cost. However, funds are available to complete this project and staff recommends contract award to Lone Star Sitework, LLC.
