Background Information:
The City provides a medical evaluation, including a chest x-ray and a stress test, for its firefighters in an effort to meet the requirements of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1582, Standard on Comprehensive Occupational Medical Program for Fire Departments. The standard calls for a baseline evaluation and then annually thereafter. It is anticipated that approximately thirty (30) NFPA-approved physicals will be conducted over each one (1) year period.
The City of Plano has a current contract with Life Extension Clinics, Inc., dba Life Scan Wellness located in Tampa, Florida, that provides all medical evaluation services specific to firefighters in accordance with NFPA requirements. The City of San Marcos intends to contract with Life Extension Clinics, Inc., dba Life Scan Wellness through the interlocal agreement with the City of Plano.
The City anticipates spending approximately $25,000 annually with its current staffing levels; however, this will be an ongoing perpetual requirement for the Fire Department.
