Background Information:
In November 2017 a water main ruptured along Sessom Drive near the Salt Grass Restaurant causing significant damage to the road. The 70 year old water main broke immediately adjacent to the culvert under the road carrying the Sessom Creek which it passes through. An immediate repair could not be conducted without causing significant disruption to the culvert. This water main has broken several times prior to November 2017 and it was decided to commence a design to replace the water main between Ed JL Green and the University Drive intersection. The new line will be constructed to avoid passing through the Sessom Creek Culvert.
It is recommended to use the existing capacity on the North LBJ and Oak Ridge Improvements contract to complete the work expeditiously to minimize disruption to traffic in the busy intersection. Additionally, TxDOT has a paving project due to begin between spring and summer of 2019. TxDOT has requested the city seek to perform this project prior to the paving work.
Performing the work under the existing contract will allow the work requiring the most disruption to traffic be complete over the holiday period.
