Background Information:

The Trust for Public Land notified the City of San Marcos of a grant program known as the Community Forest Program, administered by the US Forest Service, as a potential funding source for Sink Creek (Early tract).  Grants for this program require a 50% match from the local entity and can reach up to $600,000.

The application deadline was June 29, 2018.  The City submitted the application in the amount of $423,333.33 to the US Forest Service in coordination with the Trust for Public Land.  Staff is asking for ratification of the application submittal.  If successful with the grant, the proceeds will be used to fund the third installment payment for the Sink Creek property acquisition.  The City’s second installment scheduled in December 2018 will serve as the local match under the program requirements.
