Background Information:
The Police Department and Neighborhood Services are purchasing and outfitting 115 sworn law enforcement officers with rifle rated ballistic vests in the amount of $57,500. The vests will be utilized by officers responding to known or high-risk type of incidents including but not limited to person with a gun, robbery/burglary in progress, and active shooter situations.
The vests are being purchased through the Texas Local Government Purchasing Cooperative (“BuyBoard) that has awarded a contract #524-17 for Public Safety and Firehouse Supplies and Equipment to GT Distributors, Inc located in Austin, Texas. This process is authorized by the Texas Government Code, Title 10, Subtitle D, Section 2155-504(b) and the Local Government Code, Section 271-101.
The purchase is funded, in part, by a grant that was approved by City Council through Resolution No. 2017-123R on August 15, 2017 authorizing the submission of an application to the Office of the Governor, Criminal Justice Division for a grant in the amount of $57,500 to purchase rifle-rated ballistic vests for us be certain police officers and peace officers in the City Marshal’s office.
