Background Information:
Saving a Hero’s Place, Inc. is a non-profit organization located in Castroville, TX. After the death of Officer Ken Copeland, we were acquainted with this organization when they contacted the department about donating a custom-built chair for display at the department in memory of Officer Copeland. Incorporated in the attached request letter is a more in-depth explanation of how the organization was formed and what their mission is. In conversing with police department personnel, Saving a Hero’s Place President Tommy Capell mentioned that the organization had been hoping to acquire a vehicle capable of pulling the trailer they use to deliver the memory chairs to impacted agencies across the state. The department was preparing to dispose of recently retired police cruiser #1205 by sending it to auction. Given the nature of the mission of Saving a Hero’s Place, the department would like to donate this vehicle, a 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe with approximately 111,000 miles to the organization. The attached vehicle transfer agreement between Saving a Hero’s Place and the City would serve to protect the city’s interests in this transaction and memorialize the stated use of the vehicle by the organization.

Alternatives:
