Background Information:

The City of San Marcos is authorized by the Local Government Code, Chapter 271, to participate in cooperative purchasing programs.  The Education Service Center (ESC) Region 19 Allied States Cooperative (ASC) has awarded contract #18-7280 for Playground/Park Systems, Installation and Related to T.F. Harper and Associates, LP, located in Austin, Texas.  This is to approve a contract with T.F. Harper and Associates, LP in the total amount of $1,251,516.

The purpose of this project is to replace the 25-year-old wooden Children’s Playscape with a modern rendition that will be an all-inclusive playground for children of all abilities.  It will include areas for children ages 2 through 5 and ages 5 through 12 with custom design features that bring a unique local flair to the play area designed by Leathers and Associates.  This project will be contained within the current footprint of the current playscape.

The original playscape was constructed in November 1992 through a community build process with City funds and both monetary and physical donations.  The existing playscape has served thousands of San Marcos and Central Texas children over the last 25 years.  In 2013, due to the deteriorating condition and ADA accessibility, the playscape was added to the 10-year CIP with design to be funded in 2016 and construction to occur in 2017.  In February 2017, City Council authorized the selection of Leathers and Associates for the design of the Children’s Playscape Renovation.

The following schedule is anticipated for construction:

January 2018 - Deconstruction of existing playscape

February 2018 - Begin construction (mid to late February)

April 2018 - Complete construction (end of April)
