CITY COUNCIL GOAL:  Beautify and Enhance the Quality of Place

COMPREHENSIVE PLAN ELEMENT(s): Land Use Goal 1 Objective #4: Replace the Land Development Code with an updated document to support the preferred scenario.

BACKGROUND

The Revised Draft Code was released in January of 2017. This Revised Draft Code represents three years of public input and a robust, iterative conversation between the City and the community on how to realize the goals of Vision San Marcos.  During the revisions period of the project, policy level issues were identified and framed for consideration by policy makers during this two-step adoption process.

Joint Work Sessions

The Planning and Development Services Department held 11 informal joint work sessions between the months of January and May 2017. These work sessions served as an opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback identifying amendments that should be discussed during formal workshops. An amendment report was drafted following these work sessions.

Workshops

Two separate workshops were held with the Planning and Zoning Commission to provide recommendations on amendments to be included in the final draft of Code SMTX. Those recommendations were included in the amendments report and passed on to City Council.

The City Council has held three workshops where the majority of topics and issues were discussed. The purpose of this final workshop is to:

• Provide Direction on the establishment of a parking fee-in-lieu; including the amount.

• Discuss any remaining outstanding amendments or questions from Council Members.
