CITY COUNCIL GOAL:

BACKGROUND:
As a result of the Flood Events of Memorial Day Weekend, 2015, a substantial amount of purchases have been made in response to the emergency. These purchases include: temporary housing for the firefighters stationed at Fire Station #5; cleanup, demolition, and reconstruction costs related to the flood damage sustained at Fire Station #5; three replacement cruisers for the Police Department; and the removal of a damaged footbridge in Ramon Lucio Park.

These purchases are considered General Exemptions per Texas Local Government Code Section 252.022 (a) (1) & (3), which defines general exemptions as follows: "(1) a procurement made because of a public calamity that requires the immediate appropriation of money to relieve the necessity of the municipality's residents or to preserve the property of the municipality," and "(3) a procurement necessary because of unforeseen damage to public machinery, equipment, or other property."
Damage to the fire station is covered by the City's insurance and the expenses will be reimbursed through the policy, subject to deductibles and limitations.
