Background Information:
City Council held a discussion on November 18 regarding the placement of the full name of the Dunbar Recreation Center's namesake, Paul Laurence Dunbar, on the outside of the facility.
This action does not change the official name of Dunbar Park.
In 1961 the San Marcos School Board of Trustees changed the name of the Negro School to the Dunbar School, to honor Paul Laurence Dunbar (1872 - 1906) of Dayton, Ohio, a noted black author.
