CITY COUNCIL GOAL:

BACKGROUND:
As per direction from Council and in collaboration with Trust for Public Land we are prepared to close on the purchase of the 89.79 acre Barker B2 tract adjacent to the existing Purgatory Creek Natural Area using existing funds on hand.  Those funds are the remaining funds from the county bond that was awarded to the city in 2007 and city funding.  Hays County has agreed to the use of these funds for this purchase.  No funds are from federal and state sources, therefore we have fewer restrictions on adding amenities.  The advantages of this purchase are little or no golden-cheek warbler habitat, an existing road, and water well.  The site can be accessed from McCarty Road.  We will also be able to use the purchase price of this property as a match toward other grants for improvements.
