BACKGROUND:

On January 19 City Council appointed a Cemetery Subcommittee to review and make recommendation on burial fees for the cemetery. After two meetings and much discussion the Subcommittee reached a consensuses on the following fee options.

Residents-Level 1 (Residents living inside the legal City Limits of San Marcos; persons related to a person interred in the cemetery within the first degree by blood or marriage; legal guardian of a person interred in the cemetery)

$1,400.00 lot fee

Non-Residents-Level 2 (Lot purchasers who have a San Marcos address, or live in the SMCISD, or pay City of San Marcos property taxes.

$1,750.00 lot fee

Non-Residents- Level 3 (Lot purchasers who do not meet any of the other stated criteria).
$2,500.00 lot fee

These fees would increase on October 1st of each year for ten years in the following amounts: $50 per year per lot for Level 1 and Level 2; $100 per year per lot for Level 3.

During discussions, it was also proposed that a new line item/fund be created in the budget to any funds that are over and above the current $1,000.00 lot fee. It was recommended that these funds be restricted to use for the purpose of purchasing property for expansion of the current cemetery or the purchase of property for a new cemetery.

Yearly lot fee increase table.
