Background Information:
City Council provided direction during Budget Policy to continue an incremental rate increase approach for all utilities instead of larger increases every few years. Council then provided direction during the August 20th meeting to implement a 1% rate increase for Resource Recovery. The rate adjustment will fund expenses for services that include contractual increases for trash, recycling, green waste and other programs, public outreach and education, and administration of resource recovery program. On May 7, 2024, Council approved Resolution 2024-94R which added mattress and box spring recycling to our recycling contract; this addition is included in the rate adjustment.
Monthly rates for single and multifamily services are proposed to increase 1% in addition to $1 per month for the mattress removal program. For single family customers with a 65-gallon cart, the monthly increase is $1.29, from $29.66 to $30.95. The monthly rate for single family customers with a 96-gallon will also increase $1.29, from $34.66 to $35.95. For multifamily customers the monthly increase is $1.08, from $9.05 to $10.13. The monthly rate for extra carts will increase by $0.07, bringing the total monthly rate to $7.56 for each additional 96-gallon recycling and green waste cart and $10.56 for each additional 96-gallon trash cart.
