Background Information:
On March 4, the City Council chose Affordable Housing, Public Services, and Public Facilities as the high priorities for Community Development Block Grant Funds assigned to the City by HUD over the next five years. These priorities and related goals have been written into the draft Consolidated Plan, which is the five year plan for HUD grants.
The next step is a public hearing, which is required prior to a 30 day public review period for the Consolidated Plan. The purpose of the public hearing is to provide an opportunity for residents and service agencies to provide input on the housing, community development, and social service needs in San Marcos and to comment on the three broad categories chosen for HUD CDBG funding.
For the public benefit staff will provide a very quick review of what the Consolidated Plan is and the steps required for its creation and approval.
