Airport Master Plan
Background Information:
In April 2021 the City adopted its updated Airport Master Plan. This plan established the foundation for airport growth and identified priorities such as extending Runway 17/35, improving taxiways, and strengthening existing infrastructure. The plan is also a federal requirement to ensure continued eligibility for FAA and TxDOT Aviation grant funding.
Since its adoption, the fleet mix at the airport has shifted to include larger aircraft, and there is growing interest in potential future air carrier service. These changes prompted the need to update specific portions of the plan rather than conduct a full re-write.
The update includes:
• Potential locations for a passenger terminal facility
• Airfield layout configurations
• Roadway development plans for airport access along SH21
• Potential locations for fuel farm, electrical vault, and Air Traffic Control Tower
• An updated land use plan
These targeted updates will help ensure the airport remains a regional asset that supports business, education, emergency response, and economic development.
Final adoption of the master plan is required to facilitate future CIP funding for various programs and projects and seek reimbursement from TxDOT Aviation for 90 percent of the cost.
