Background Information:
The Fire Department has a surplus 2014 Spartan ERV 100-foot aerial ladder truck that is no longer needed by the city. The apparatus was offered for sale through a competitive online auction. Following the auction, Austin Community College (ACC) offered to purchase the ladder truck for $300,000.00 and pay the city $21,000 additional to cover the city’s 7% auctioneer commission. ACC intends to use the apparatus for training and hands-on instruction at its ACC Fire Academy.
In accordance with the auction agreement, once funds are received by the city from ACC, the city will then pay the auctioneer their commission of 7% ($21,000) of the sale price of $300,000 for services rendered in marketing the vehicle and securing the buyer. Again, ACC is paying the city $321,000, $300,000 to the city, and $21,000 additional to cover the 7% auctioneer commission.
Prior to delivery, the ladder truck will be fully decommissioned, and all City of San Marcos decals, markings, labels, and identifying placards will be removed.
The proceeds from this auction will be used to cover the cost of the recently purchased reserve blocker, plus its upfitting and associated equipment, and the remainder will be returned to the city’s general fund.
