Background Information:
The Parks and Recreation Department is seeking approval to purchase one (1) 2025 Peterbilt Series 548 10-12 yard Dump Truck. This equipment is anticipated to have a useful life of fifteen years, based on our frequency of use, before maintenance costs become significant. Currently, we do not have a dump truck of this size in our inventory. This addition will enhance parks maintenance operations by facilitating the efficient movement of materials for trail and park maintenance, vegetation and brush clearing, and debris removal, allowing us to haul larger quantities at once.
Our existing inventory includes two (2) 6-yard dump trucks: a 2000 Chevrolet C6500 and a 2008 Ford F750, which were transferred to us from other departments when they upgraded their equipment. The 2000 Chevrolet C6500 has reached the end of its useful life and needs to be retired. The procurement of this new dump truck will ensure that the Parks and Recreation Department has the necessary equipment to perform required operations in the absence of the Chevrolet.
Major Benefits to the City:
• Enhanced Efficiency: A larger dump truck will enable more efficient operations by reducing the number of trips and time needed currently required to transport materials in a smaller dump truck.
• Cost Savings: By reducing the need for frequent trips to transport materials, fuel and labor costs will be minimized.
The Parks and Recreation Department will purchase the equipment from Rush Truck Center Austin, located in Buda, Texas, through the Government Purchasing Cooperative BuyBoard Contract #723-23 in the amount of $175,383.87.
The equipment is expected to be received in 3 - 4 months after the order is placed.
The City is authorized by Texas Local Government Code Chapter 271.102 to participate in cooperative purchasing programs to procure goods and services, satisfying any state law requiring the local government to seek competitive bids. As such, this procurement is compliant through the BuyBoard cooperative contract #723-23.
