Background Information:
Seeking to bring an airshow to San Marcos Municipal Airport, the non-profit Wings and Warriors reached out to the City of San Marcos and Texas Aviation Partners in 2024. The organizers have hosted multiple planning meetings with our special events team, Texas Aviation Partners, first responders, transportation division, and Gary Job Corp staff. The Air Show team applied for an Impactful Event grant through the Destination Services grant portal. The Texas Capital Air Show is anticipated to bring more than 15,000 people from outside of San Marcos to inject over one million dollars into the local economy, benefiting restaurants, hotels, retail establishments, and convenience stores.
About the Texas Capital Air Show - San Marcos: The Air Show will be two days of aerial and ground performances including the United States Air Force F-22 Raptor, the United States Navy FA-18 Super Hornet, the USAF C-17 Globemaster III demonstration team, and the US Navy Legacy Flight. There will be numerous civilian acts, and the Commemorative Air Force Central Texas Wing will have several of their World War 2 aircraft flying and as static displays.
This year's event aims to establish the groundwork for an annual air show and cultivate a strong community connection. Achieving a break-even point financially in this inaugural year will signify success.
About Wings & Warriors: Wings & Warriors Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit strives to eradicate suicide in our nation’s military members and first responders by being there for them in their times of need and providing them with any support and resources they may need.
The Foundation is a volunteer organization made up of people who come from all walks of life and share the common goal of helping those in their time of need. All proceeds from the Texas Capital Air Show will go to the Wings & Warriors Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
What is an Impactful Event Grant: On September 17, 2024, the San Marcos City Council approved a revised Public Events Grant Policy. Under the Policy, there are three types of Public Event Grants: (1) Signature Event Grants; (2) Classic Event Grants; and (3) Impactful Event Grants. The Impactful Event Grant is funded by Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) for a new impactful event targeting both visitors and residents that brings people together to celebrate and enjoy different forms of artistic expression, music, food, sports and/or traditions in San Marcos. An event must have not previously been held in San Marcos. An event must have a projected attendance of over 5,000 people with more than fifty percent of its participants and attendees from outside the area.
The Impactful Event Grant Review Panel recommends funding the Texas Capital Airshow - San Marcos an amount of $100,000 to support the marketing and promotional efforts of the air show.
