BACKGROUND:
On October 2, 2014, the City received nine (9) bids for the SH 123 at Wonder World Drive Relocation Project (IFB 215-001). The design engineer, Bryan Martin, P.E., of Brown & Gay Engineers, Inc., has reviewed the bids and recommends awarding the contract to the low bidder, Capital Excavation Company, located in Buda, Texas, in the amount of $1,588,123.04. Of this contract, the City will be responsible for approximately $250,000.

Local bidder preference law does not apply to this type of contract.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) was awarded $13.4 million in Safety Bond money to improve the intersection of State Highway 123 and Wonder World Drive. As a result of the TXDOT roadway improvements, existing City of San Marcos water and wastewater lines will need to be relocated and/or adjusted. Since the existing water and sewer mains are in an easement; TXDOT is required to reimburse the majority of the cost.  The City is responsible for approximately $250,000 of the total project.

The project scope includes the abandonment and replacement of water lines, wastewater lines, and assorted appurtenances for the State Highway 123 and Wonder World Drive intersection improvements. The estimated construction time is one hundred thirty (130) working days.
