Background Information:
This is the naming recommendation for the city’s existing wastewater treatment plant located at 720 River Road. It is recommended that council approve, “River Road Water Reclamation Facility,” as the name for the existing facility that provides wastewater treatment and water reclamation for the city of San Marcos.
The recommended name is for the existing wastewater treatment plant. The naming methodology utilizes the closest major public road for the location identifier, which is River Road. It also utilizes, “water reclamation facility,” as the facility descriptor due to the wastewater treatment plant having Type 1 reuse treatment functionality and providing reclaimed water to customers which aids in potable water conservation capability in the city.
The existing plant was originally constructed in 1969 to provide wastewater treatment for the city. Once the proposed FM 1978 Water Reclamation Facility is operational, the River Rd. facility will continue to treat a majority of the city’s wastewater with future expansion being planned to accommodate increasing flows from the rapid growth the city is experiencing.
Constructed in 1969 with the latest significant expansion occurring in 2009. The current treatment plant has a permitted capacity of 9 million gallons per day (MGD).
