BACKGROUND:
On March 26, 2015 the City of San Marcos received a total of eight (8) sealed bids for the North LBJ Lift Station Improvements Project (IFB 215-083).  The City Staff along with the Design Engineer, Travis M. Michel, P.E., CPESC of Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam, Inc. (LAN), have reviewed the bids and recommend awarding the contract to the low bidder, Prota Construction, Inc., located in Austin, Texas in the total amount of $1,484,033.50.  Local bidder preference law does not apply to this type of contract.

The North LBJ Lift Station has been identified by the Wastewater Department as being in need of upgrades to meet significant increases in capacity and performance demand.  The current lift station is a duplex (two-pump) station and is easily overburdened during peak flow periods.  The project will expand the existing lift station with three new pumps, a new wet well, and electrical upgrades which will improve capacity and redundancy.

In 2010, LAN prepared a preliminary engineering report for the Sink Creek Phase II alignment.  In this report, the North LBJ Lift Station was analyzed and a recommendation was provided.  Although the Sink Creek Interceptor was not approved due to permitting concerns, the lift station improvement recommended by LAN are still required.

Construction is expected to commence in June 2015 and be complete in the Spring 2016.
