Background Information:
Six (6) bids were received on February 19th, 2026 for the Thorpe Lane Sidewalk Improvements project. The City has reviewed the bids and the Design Engineer, Kimley-Horn, recommends awarding the contract to the low bidder, Unity Contractor Services, Inc., located out of Austin, Texas, in the amount of $520,706.71.
The project will demolish and reconstruct existing sidewalks and driveways along Thorpe Lane between Hopkins Street and Aquarena Springs Drive to bring pedestrian facilities into compliance with the Public Right-of-Way Accessibility Guidelines (PROWAG). The project also includes construction of a new sidewalk connection and curb ramps at Robbie Lane, relocation of an existing pedestrian push button, and reconfiguration of the pedestrian crossing at Warden Lane.
Many of the existing pedestrian facilities along this corridor do not meet current accessibility standards and have deteriorated over time, creating barriers for pedestrians and individuals with mobility impairments. The proposed improvements will address these deficiencies, enhance pedestrian safety, and provide compliant and continuous pedestrian access along a heavily traveled corridor.
Construction is anticipated to begin in Summer 2026, with substantial completion expected in Fall 2026.
