Background Information:
According to Texas Election Code Section 3.005 (c)(2), the last day to call the General Election of the City of San Marcos is August 17, 2026. Due to the time sensitive nature of this Ordinance, it is being proposed as an Emergency and will have only one reading.
The election will be held in accordance with the provisions of the Charter and Ordinances of the City of San Marcos and the laws of the State of Texas. The deadline for filing by candidates for the position of a Mayor, Council Member, Place 3 and Council Member, Place 4 is 5:00 p.m. on August 17, 2026. The deadline for filing for the remainder of the term of office for Council Member 6 is 6:00 p.m. on August 20, 2026.
The Countywide Early Voting and Election Day polling places will be set by the Hays County Commissioners Court. A separate ordinance setting out the polling places for the Election will be presented for Council approval on August 18, 2026.
If runoff election is needed. Runoff election day is December 12, 2026.
