Background Information:

Staff will provide an update on TxDOT’s implementation of a significant portion of the City’s striping plan for Guadalupe between University and Grove.

TxDOT has recently informed the City that they will re-stripe after their current mill and overlay project to implement the Guadalupe lane reduction from 3-lanes to 2-lanes, allowing room for the City planned two way bicycle facility.  The City will begin construction after the first of the year with installation of bicycle traffic signals and final striping.

It was originally believed that the City would need to remove the TxDOT striping with its project.  With TxDOT agreeing to include the City plans with their project, it saves the City both the removal costs and a significant portion of the anticipated striping costs.  Because the bike lanes cannot be safely opened until signal and final striping is in place, the bike lanes will be barricaded from use until the completion of the City project.
