Background Information:

The City of San Marcos worked with the Normandy Group, the City’s Federal Legislative consultants, and Bickerstaff Heath Delgado Acosta LLP, the City’s State Legislative consultants, to identify the updated list of guiding principles for the upcoming 2019 Legislative sessions.  These guiding principles aid City staff and elected officials in advancing the interests of the City, its residents, and businesses, with the federal and state Congressional delegations and with corresponding agencies involved in the funding and regulation of assets and services provided by the City of San Marcos to the people of our community.  These Guiding Principles were adopted by resolution on December 12, 2018.

These Guiding Principles are living documents that may be updated at the will of the Council.  At the last meeting of the Council’s Legislative Committee on February 8, amendments were discussed to add additional language showing the City’s support of legislative funding for Texas Early Childhood Intervention, funding for school and firearm safety plans and programs, and legislative action to coordinate and expand the delivery of mental health care services.

The Committee recommended amending the document to include these edits and they are noted by redline in the attached Guiding Principles document.
