Background Information:
In 2018 the city initiated the design to reconstruct the two main taxiways at the San Marcos Regional Airport (Taxiway Alpha and Charlie). This was undertaken after the city requested to TxDOT Aviation the need to repair/reconstruct both taxiways due to their deteriorating condition. TxDOT Aviation confirmed in November 2020 that Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) would be programing discretionary funds (90% Federal, 10% local sponsor) for both taxiways. Taxiway Charlie first in 2022 and Taxiway Alpha in 2023.
The total estimated construction cost is estimated at $5,260,500. TxDOT Aviation, as the agent for the FAA, require a resolution confirming the city’s commitment to fund the project with the 10 percent local match required at $526,050. This will allow the project to go out to bid in June/July of this year. No funding is required at this time.
Following the receipt of bids, a participation agreement will be developed by TxDOT Aviation and go to council to fund the actual construction amount.
