Background Information:

In March, The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) held a statewide Call for Projects for the Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside (TASA) Program which provides funding to construct alternative transportation projects that improve mobility for non-motorized users and mitigates congestion by providing transportation options.  The Hopkins Street/Hwy 80 Shared Use Path (SUP) project was submitted and the application has been selected for the next round prior to award for federal funding.  This resolution is required to show the City support and commitment to entering into an Advance Funding Agreement with the Texas Department of Transportation, if the project receives a grant award.

The Hopkins Street/Hwy 80 SUP Project will improve safety and accessibility for all ages and abilities by adding and upsizing existing sidewalk to a shared use path from Thorpe Lane to River Road, including the IH-35 crossing.

The project cost is currently estimated at $1,263,872.  The federal contribution, (80%) of construction, would be $1,011,097.  Under the grant the City’s contribution, (20%) of construction, would be $252,775.
