Background Information:
The City of San Marcos and Hays County were awarded a combined total of $45,065 in FY 25 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) program funding last year. Localities that receive a JAG disparate allocation are required to enter into a formal agreement via a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that specifies at minimum 1) the locality will serve as fiscal agent for the group and 2) the amount of JAG funding that each locality agrees to receive. The MOU must be signed by all parties, by the official with the authority to enter into such an agreement on behalf of the locality. At the time of notice of funding award, Hays County agreed to serve as fiscal agent with the City of San Marcos to serve as a sub-grantee. Hays County has drafted the attached Interlocal that meets this grant requirement. The City of San Marcos will receive an allocation of $20,576 and the County will receive an allocation of $24,489.
The City of San Marcos has elected to utilize its allocation of funding to purchase training and equipment to enhance the overall investigative and operational capabilities by improving the accuracy, reliability, and efficiency of evidence handling. The County will utilize its allocation to replace bullet proof vests to promote safety among its duty officers.
