Background Information:
As a Direct Recipient of FTA Section 5307, the City is responsible for maintaining a transit fleet that meets the State of Good Repair goals of the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and the Federal Transit Administration (FTA).
This purchase consists of four (4) 25 Foot buses to replace the aging current fleet. The cost per vehicle is $105,887. These vehicles will replace four (4) buses that are past the “Useful Life” criteria of the FTA. The vehicles will be ADA compliant to include two wheelchair tie-downs and a wheel chair lift. They will provide additional comfort and safety to the community. The new vehicles have a useful life of seven years or 200,000 miles.
The cost of this equipment will be covered at 100% federal share with no local dollars expended to support the purchase. TxDOT has awarded the City Transportation Development Credits to match the federal share requirements.
Per authority granted in Local Government Code 271, the City is making this procurement of Transit Equipment from Creative Bus Solutions of Irving, TX through Texas SmartBuy cooperative contract #556A1-2718 in the amount of $423,548.00.
This project is included in the budget amendments for Council consideration on August 3rd and August 17th. Approval of this item will allow staff to begin the procurement process.
