Background Information:
This Interlocal Agreement (ILA) with Hays County authorizes a joint application to Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) for the design of a shared use path (SUP) along Cape Road from the San Marcos River to Luciano Flores.
Hays County is currently in the design phase for the Capes Pond Park and the City is currently in design for the bridge repair at Cape Road and the Mill Race. This project will create a shared use path between these two projects and create mobility between the neighborhoods.
The terms within this ILA, upon CAMPO funding award estimated in June 2026, states that the City of San Marcos and Hays County will split the local match required 50/50 for a total estimated cost of $200,000.00, with the City being responsible for $100,000.00 and the County for the remaining $100,000.00. This ILA does not address construction at this time and will have to be amended in the future should the City and County finalize this design and pursue construction. If the project is not selected by CAMPO for design, the City will continue to work toward other grant opportunities to address this project.
