Background Information:
The Five Mile Dam Park Soccer Complex development has been a joint venture between the City of San Marcos and Hays County for 20 years. In October 2022 the City Council and Hays County entered into an Interlocal Agreement to jointly fund these improvements. Hays County’s contribution is $400,000 which has been paid to the City of this project. The City is funding the difference with approved Capital Improvement Funds and Park Improvement Funds
Project Details
These lighting improvements will provide lighting to the five (5) soccer fields and one (1) U8 soccer field are unlit. Currently there are only two fields with sports lighting installed, Fields 5 & 6. Fields 4, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 10A will have lighting installed during this phase of the project. Fields 1 & 2 will be addressed during future improvements. A timeline for future improvements has not been set at this time. A map of the Five Mile Dam Soccer Complex is attached for reference.
The LED sports lighting being installed is the same lighting that was installed at the Gary Softball Complex in 2021. It provides limited spill and is considered dark sky compliant.
The project will not begin until the conclusion of the Surge Soccer Club fall season and will be completed between December 2024 - January 2025. Weather permitting the project will be completed prior to the next season beginning.
The scope of work for this Project includes but is not limited to installation of Total Light Control
(TLC) for LED technology at five (5) 330’ x 210’ soccer fields and one (1) U8 soccer field.
The City of San Marcos is entering into this contract for Five Mile Dam Park
Soccer Lighting Project, #223-129 with Musco Sports Lighting, LLC through a cooperative
purchasing arrangement with the Texas Local Government Purchasing Cooperative BuyBoard
Contract #677-22 for Parks and Sports Field Lighting Products and Installation Services as authorized under State law.
