Background Information:
The Hays County Behavioral Advisory Team (BAT) was created in May 2023 to serve as a single point of advisory, accountability, planning, and resource coordination for all City of San Marcos, City of Kyle and Hays County behavioral health services. Behavioral health, for purposes of this document and the sphere of responsibility of the BAT, is defined as behavioral health and/or chemical dependency.
The BAT exists to leverage resources more effectively, provide more empowered and coordinated representation in the functioning of the local system of care, and to create a leadership collaborative to partner in developing a strong behavioral health care strategy for Hays County. Since being created, the BAT has met monthly and involved dozens of stakeholders. Now, this coordinated partnership is growing again, and we need your help.
Local community leaders desire to create a Mental Health Coordinating Committee (MHCC) that will assist subcommittees consisting of the BAT, Youth Services and Adult Services. The BAT has historically had a criminal justice nexus, so these additional committees were created to expand services for all citizens. To ensure effectiveness, the MHCC is being formed to support these committees by leveraging relationships, finances, grant opportunities and networking. We are seeking a designated leader from the City of San Marcos, City of Kyle, City of Buda, Hays County, Cities of Dripping Springs and Wimberley, Hays County Mental Health Court, District Attorney’s Office and Hill Country Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Center. Additionally, the chairs of each subcommittee will serve on the MHCC, bringing total membership to approximately 12 to 15 people. The newly selected Hays County Behavioral Health Coordinator will serve as an ex-officio member.
The MHCC will select a chair upon creation, and they will help support and execute the action items identified by the three subcommittees. The MHCC will not be a policy making board but will instead serve the citizens of Hays County by fully supporting the work of the subcommittees.
As the current chairs of the BAT Team, we respectfully ask your governing entity to select a member for service on the MHCC, with service commencing by May 1, 2024. Please send the contact information for your delegate to the co-chairs listed below.
