Background Information:
On May 9, 2024, the City of San Marcos experienced damaging high winds and large hail during a sudden storm with high probability of tornadic activity. This weather event resulted in numerous uprooted and downed trees, to include trees that encroached upon utility lines.
To preserve and protect public health and safety, the City entered into several emergency contracts for tree removal services with the following vendors in the following not-to-exceed amounts:
• Austin Arborist Co., located in Austin, Texas - $50,000
• Heritage Tree Care, LLC, located in Buda, Texas - $120,000
• The Davey Tree Expert Co., located in San Marcos, Texas - $40,000
• Kriewaldt Tree Services located in New Braunfels, Texas - $5,000
These emergency contracts are exempt from competitive solicitation under Local Government Code, Section 252.022(a)(2) a procurement necessary to preserve or protect the public health or safety of the municipality’s residents.
