Background Information:
On May 9, 2024, six bids were received for the Dunbar Water and Wastewater Improvement Project IFB #223-277. Guerra Underground, LLC was the apparent low bidder with a total base bid plus alternate one (1) of $6,285,310.72. Based on their qualifications and references, they appear to be qualified to perform the work of this project.
This project proposes to upsize water and wastewater mains to a minimum of 8” which is the current design standard. These upgrades will improve fire protection and potable water hydraulic conditions for the Dunbar neighborhood area. Also proposed is the repaving of Faris, Wilson and MLK Drive since the pavement condition index (PCI) is less than 50. Sharrow bike lanes are proposed on San Antonio Street between Mitchell and S. Bishop Street.
Based on current design standards, many of the existing mains are undersized and some services are located in the back yard of properties. This project will upsize mains and reorientate all services to the front of properties. There is also a wastewater main that traverses across private property between Faris and Wilson Street that will be abandoned with reconnections made in the front of the properties affected.
Construction is anticipated to start in August, 2024 and end in the summer of 2026.
