Background Information:
Pyro Shows of Texas, Inc was selected by the City of San Marcos following a Request for Proposals solicitation process in January 2022 for the annual Independence Day Fireworks display. The City and Pyro Shows of Texas, Inc., entered into a one-year contract with four additional one-year renewal options for a total spend of up $100,000 over five years. The contract term began on February 10, 2022, and is up for renewal for another one-year term.
The initial one-year contract in 2022 was $20,000. Contract renewals for 2023 ($29,700) and 2024 ($39,500) brought the contract total to $89,200. With the contract renewal for 2025 ($39,500), the total contract value will reach $128,700 thereby requiring City Council approval.
The Parks and Recreation Department overall budget has been able to support a portion of the contract renewal increases, and there has not been a need to request a department budget increase related to the contract.
In an effort to increase the size of the display, the Parks and Recreation Department also continues to seek sponsorships and donations annually. In 2024, HEB provided $10,000 and the Lion’s Club provided $4,500 which increased our available budget for the display to $39,500. Donations received vary year-to-year and are not guaranteed. For this reason, the size of the display varies based on funding available.
