Background Information:
The City of San Marcos is entering into an annual services agreement 224-162 with Chain Electric Company, located in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, for Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) Fiber Optic Installation, Maintenance, and Repair Services through its interlocal agreement with the City of New Braunfels.
The contract allows the city to procure services for the installation of fiber optic cabling and the acquisition of necessary equipment for the installation process. The purpose of the fiber optic cabling is to expand the city's network connectivity to various city-owned facilities, including electric substations, pump and lift stations, traffic registers, communication towers, water towers, and other field assets that require high-speed connectivity. The installation of the fiber optic cabling will involve utilizing existing utility poles and underground conduits, both current and future.
The estimated annual contract amount is $700,000 and will automatically renew each year for a total contract term of five (5) years. Therefore, the total estimated amount of the contract is $3,500,000. The City retains the option to not renew, if needed.
The City of San Marcos is authorized to participate in interlocal agreements per Local Government Code, Section 271. As such, the City is utilizing its cooperative purchasing agreement with City of New Braunfels to enter into this agreement with Chain Electric Company.
