Background Information:

In January 2020, a Point-In-Time (PIT) count determined that Hays County had just over 100 people experiencing homelessness. This report, led by the local H.O.M.E. Center non-profit, is part of the State and Federal HUD report on homelessness.  Community support for people experiencing homelessness has increased in the past year and there has been a grassroots effort to provide assistance from various agencies and City departments. The Texas Homeless Network was contacted and efforts to create a local consortium (LC) began in September.  As part of this effort, the Hays County Local Homeless Coalition will be electing officers, appointing committees, and creating a leadership board. The City of San Marcos has been invited to provide a voting board member to the consortium.

Council Committee, Board/Commission Action:
Council will appoint a voting member to the board of the Hays County Local Homeless Coalition.
